MISSION


The Shelby County Office of Preparedness HLS / EMA / UASI, which includes grants and program administration, provides assistance to the Shelby County Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) by allocating the resources for planning, equipment, training and exercises. Our office partners with local jurisdictions to prevent, protect, respond and recover from all-hazard threats, natural or man-made.


Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI)


The Shelby County Office of Preparedness mission provides administrative assistance to address the unique planning, equipment, training, and exercise needs of Shelby County and the UASI region.

The Office of Preparedness is to assist the partnering jurisdictions in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, protect, respond to and recover from all-hazards threats. These threats and eventualities can be natural or man-made.

The Office of Preparedness has a two-fold mission: Grants Administration and Program Administration. Within the scope of this mission, the Office of Preparedness integrates into the comprehensive public safety environment within Shelby County and the UASI Region.


Shelby County, TN Office Of Preparedness is made up of Homeland Security (HLS), Memphis Shelby County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Memphis, TN Urban Area Security Inititative (UASI), and includes the following Tennessee counties: Shelby County, Tipton County, Fayette County, Lauderdale County as well as Crittenden County, Arkansas and Desoto County, Mississippi.
