
CERT Classes for 2023 ***New dates available***
Learn how to prepare for the unexpected by taking the FREE Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training from the Shelby County Office of Preparedness. CERT students learn life-saving skills; gain a new confidence that they will know what do before, during and after a disaster. And be able to assist family, neighbors, and co-workers until the professional rescuers arrive on the scene.
CERT training is presented through lectures, videos, and hands-on exercises to teach students what to do before, during, and after a disaster.
Modules include:
- fire suppression (extinguishing a small fire with an ABC fire extinguisher)
- disaster psychology
- medical triage and first aid
- hazardous materials
- disaster preparation (learn how to create a “go kit” for home, work, and auto)
- terrorism
- light search and rescue This is a 16 hour course taught over 2 days. Students must attend both Saturdays to obtain a certificate.
