Public CERT Training set for October 28 and November 4
Learn how to prepare for the unexpected by taking the free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training from the Shelby County Office of Preparedness. CERT students learn life-saving skills; gain a new confidence that they will know what do before, during and after a disaster. Participants will also be able to assist family, neighbors, and co-workers until the professional rescuers arrive on the scene.
CERT training is presented through lectures, videos, and hands-on exercises focusing on what to do before, during, and after a disaster.
Modules include:
- Fire suppression (extinguishing a small fire with an ABC fire extinguisher)
- Disaster psychology
- Medical triage and first aid
- Hazardous materials
- Disaster preparation (learn how to create a “go kit” for home, work, and auto)
- Terrorism
- Light search and rescue
This is a 16 hour course taught over 2 days. Students must attend both Saturdays to obtain a certificate.
Location: Shelby County Office of Preparedness, 1075 Mullins Station Road, Building C, CERT Classroom, Memphis, TN 38134.
Age Limits: 18 years of age, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian
