Public CERT Training set for September 16th and 23rd

Learn how to prepare for the unexpected by taking the free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training from the Shelby County Office of Preparedness. CERT students learn life-saving skills; gain a new confidence that they will know what do before, during and after a disaster. Participants will also be able to assist family, neighbors, and co-workers until the professional rescuers arrive on the scene.

CERT training is presented through lectures, videos, and hands-on exercises focusing on what to do before, during, and after a disaster.

Modules include:

  • Fire suppression (extinguishing a small fire with an ABC fire extinguisher)
  • Disaster psychology
  • Medical triage and first aid
  • Hazardous materials
  • Disaster preparation (learn how to create a “go kit” for home, work, and auto)
  • Terrorism
  • Light search and rescue

This is a 16 hour course taught over 2 days. Students must attend both Saturdays to obtain a certificate.

       Age Limits: 18 years of age, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian
